THE DUCKS—LITTLE & LARGE The American/African F1 Marigold Revolution

“How Shipwrecked Ducks became Beautiful Marigold Varieties”

Once upon a time, during a Winter Storm, a large ship, sailing from Hong Kong to America lost several containers over board.

Inside one of these containers were 28,000 bath ducks.

No one would have guessed that these ducks would still be floating around the World’s oceans 25 years later and have taught oceanographers valuable lessons.
Driven by ocean currents these Little & Big ducks have floated around the world and washed up on the shores of Hawaii, Alaska, South America and the Pacific Northwest whilst others have made their way as far afield as Scotland and Newfoundland.

This story inspired AmeriSeed to name two of our new Marigold series “The Little Ducks” & “The Big Ducks”.

We want AmeriSeed Marigolds to be grown all over the World but also to remind us of the dangers of plastics that become entrapped in our oceans.

AmeriSeed “Little Ducks” and “Big Ducks” have won AAS (All-American-Selection) and Fluroselect awards also receiving an award from Colorado State University. The Ducks have been featured in many Summer trials in Europe, America and Asia

“Little Duck Orange and Yellow” are the most compact, natural dwarf varieties available. Tidy plants with outstanding, fully double, bright flowers that sit on top of dark green foliage. Plants are very uniform with strong peduncles enabling easy shipping. The “Little Ducks” have tube shaped, tightly clustered petals and are suitable for pots, beds and mass plantings.

The “Big Ducks” are taller and striking in mass landscape plantings and offer wonderful back drops to other varieties of bedding plants. “Big Ducks” can also used in mixed containers or as “stand alone” presentations in large pots. Three colors are available-Yellow, Gold and Orange.

The “Little and Big Ducks” have been specially bred in South East Asia to withstand extreme heat, humidity and disease pressure and are ideal for hotter summers being experienced worldwide.

AmeriSeed has the most comprehensive range of American/African F1 Marigolds from dwarf compact types to very tall garland and cut flower types. We also have types used for extraction of natural food ingredients
